Positano - Day 7

Well our last day here and we were going to do a half day boat cruise but the wind got up, hence the seas got up and we therefore got out! It all worked out well though as it gave us all time to take a breather and have our last wander around Posi. We also had to pay the parking fine for the scooter in Amalfi and what a drama that turned out to be! We tried numerous times to pay it at the post office, which always seemed to be closed until we discovered it only opened for 5 hrs every morning and of course we'd go of an afternoon!  We had to complete a form, in Italian of course,, which did prove a little difficult, even with th help of Google Translate! Going back to the post office counter, the guy behind the desk looked at the form, gave us a grunt and proceeded to fill out another form for us. Why he didn't just do this to start with would have saved a lot of trouble! Anyway, his machine then wouldn't accept our card so we gave him cash. He was about to give the change to us and held up the €50 note and "uno momento" and took the note out the back to check it  wasn't counterfeit! Mamma Mia! He then gave us the change fi all, and we thought that after this long process, we'd get back to the scooter and we'd have another parking ticket - but luckily we didn't!
So we then made our way down to the beach to have our last swim in the beautiful torquoise sea and get lunch. We'd been told about Bruno's restaurante so John and I went there. The others were doing their own thing and had well and truly eaten lunch by the time we'd sorted out the parking ticket! Bruno's was just fabulous and after a couple of wines and a seafood lunch, we were ready to go back to the Villa and have our last quiet night. What a joke that turned out to be!
PJ and Kerry had organised for pizza, pasta and salads to be delivered along with more beer and vino, of course.  Then came the grappa and  lemonciello, karaoke, dancing etc etc! and reliving  the last weeks stories. Many hours later, we found our bed, hadn't packed a thing and had to be picked up at 7am the next morning! A great night was had by all and definitely finished off a fabulous week together.
Needless to say, everyone was a bit sluggish in the morning, but we managed to get organised and get on the bus. We could all have done without the windy trip into Naples to catch the speed train to
Rome, that's for sure! Anyway we made it with plenty of time to spare.
We've now said our farewells to Kerry and PJ who were flying back to Oz today, all the others are either staying in Rome for a few more days or heading up to Venice, and John and I fly from Rome to London then to Johannasburg where we arrive about 9.30pm and spend the night before going on our safari.
So all in all we've had a wonderful time in Positano with wonderful friends, had plenty of laughs, good food, vino and experiences and hope Rob has enjoyed her 50th birthday celebrations to the max!
We ended up catching a taxi from the Rome train station to the International Airport and not another train there. Well, WOW, that was an experience! Great driver, very friendly only took us 25 minutes as we were flying along at 140km! Driver kept saying the traffic was really bad, but he was terrific. Got there in plent of time, wandered around for a bit and are now just waiting to board. Ciao Italy!
Next leg for us South Africa!

John and I had Chinese for lunch in Rome, as you do and this is the menu. Maybe C11 will be nice??

  1. Glad you got your ticket paid, even if it took a huge effort!! Wouldn't want to get arrested at the airport, you might have had to spend another couple of weeks in Italy....and that would have been brutal after your tough time this last week?! What an amazing holiday you've had in that week, all those sights and experiences with ALL those people, AND all those crazy Italians who have obviously welcomed you with open arms, open kitchens and open bars!! You'll certainly have something to talk about for years to come. By this time you'll be camping in the wilds of Africa, with only a thin sheet of canvas between you and the lions, rhinos and elephants, hope it all works out well for you! Love Pam and Vernon xxxx
